The gospel is the good news of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection on behalf of sinners.
THE GOSPEL
THE BAD NEWS: WE ARE SPIRITUALLY DEAD
God created us in His image. Everything was perfect until evil and sin entered the world through humanity's wrong and sinful choices. Because of our sin, we are unable to have a right relationship with the holy God that created us. We are unable to find favor with Him on our own. Our sin causes a barrier between us and God. We are helpless in our efforts to break this barrier by good works or moral achievement.
THE GOOD NEWS: JESUS MADE A WAY FOR US TO BE SPIRITUALLY ALIVE
Thankfully, God loved humanity so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to come into the world for the purpose of dying on the cross. In His death on the cross, Jesus took the punishment that we, as sinners, deserve. Jesus died and was resurrected three days later proving that He was who He said he was - God. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus defeated sin and death for sinners. Through His sacrificial death, sinners can be made righteous before God.
OUR RESPONSE: FAITH AND REPENTANCE
Through faith in Jesus, we can have a right relationship with God. We put our faith in Jesus when we recognize that our moral efforts, good deeds, and charity do not earn us favor with God. Repentance means turning from sin and turning to God. This doesn't mean we are perfect, it simply means that God has forgiven us because our sins have been paid for by Jesus and now we walk in a new way of life. When we put our faith in Jesus, we’re forgiven, made right with God, and given the promise of eternal life with Him.
YES, I WANT TO KNOW JESUS:
Entering a relationship with Jesus involves repentance and faith. Admit to God that you are a sinner in need of a Savior. Put your faith in Jesus as the only way to be forgiven of sins. Accept the free gift of salvation by turning from sin and turning to Jesus in faith. Reading the Bible, praying, and involvement in a local church can help you grow in your relationship with God.
